Who is this guy?

G’day! My name is Jack. I’m a young and passionate Tech Consultant currently living in Melbourne, Australia, with a computer science degree on my belt.

Besides hacking bits of code together, I’m a voracious reader, passionate about learning and team-based sports, and enjoy travelling the world.

Three Words to Describe Myself

  1. Inquisitive: Ever since I was a young’un, I’ve had a keen desire to learn. Merely understanding a question or concept and being unable to answer or explain it is not enough motivation alone – I find the need to learn arises when that thing is of interest or importance to me, and that is when learning is most stimulating.
  2. Driven: Whether it’s working on a monstrous client project or building an outdoor bar out of pallets, I’m driven to complete the task at hand. It goes against every moral fibre in my body to start something and not finish it. Consistency is key.
  3. Conscientious: Anyone I know can tell you that I approach everything I do with a high degree of thoroughness. I have an eye for detail and take my work seriously.

A Few of My Favourite Things

Getting Out of My Comfort Zone / New Adventures

I love to be outside of my comfort zone. When the nerves kick in and unfamiliarity fills the air around me, I find that is when I excel. It can be a riveting feeling to experience the unknown and it really satisfies my urge for adventure. I believe that every person is an ongoing, on-running calculation of all the interactions and experiences they’ve ever had with people and things, so a life of diverse experiences is a rich life indeed. In order to have such experiences, one must take themselves out of their comfort zone on a regular basis. This is the methodology I like to live by.

Working Toward a Common Goal as a Team

Whether it’s working on a large-scale project that employs multiple teams or simply playing touch rugby with the crew on Thursday nights, I take great enjoyment in working as part of a team. There is little else that I find to be so rewarding than to be a part of a functioning collective of people with differing skillsets and talents, working toward the same goal. I strive to energise myself and others in their work, helping them to realise and apply what they are good at. When this is accomplished, not only does it benefit the team and its progress, it also grows the individual.

Family and Friends

Family and friends are important. I believe each of us can be well defined by our relationships with friends and family; they shape who we are, help discover who we want to be, what we’re good at, and what it means to be heard and cared about. I have to pay tribute to the family and friends who have helped shape some of the most important parts of who I am today. They have grown my capacity for humility and my ability to accept constructive criticism, which in turn has allowed me to become a better listener, a more patient person, and a more empathetic individual. I hope that one day, I can grow old with many of the friends that I know now, and share a laugh when reflecting on times of old.
